KETTERING -- Many communities are cleaning up from the brief snow storm Friday morning, but people living in Kettering are happy about a change the city made.
For the first time, Kettering salt crews pre-salted the residential roads.
"The snow will melt quicker and we won't have that build up of ice like we did in the last storm," said Dave Duritsch, Director for the Public Safety Department in Kettering.
As Kim Hesse shovels her driveway and her neighbors, she noticed a change.
"This time I noticed that the main road here in our plat, was clear immediately, it probably wasn't long after that, that i noticed the plow trucks coming to do the side roads," she said.
Knowing that the salt trucks laid down the salt hours before the storm, comforted her.
"I like knowing that the road hopefully doesn't have black ice if they pre-treated it, it's always what you can't see that gets you," said Hesse.
Which is exactly why the city is working so hard.
"The public service department has a lot of guys and gals out doing a lot of hard work to keep these streets safe for them to travel," said Duritsch.
Depending on the type of storm the area would get, the city will continue to pre-treat the residential roads in the future.
