MIAMI COUNTY -- A crash in Bethel Township leaves one man dead Friday afternoon. The accident happened on US 40 near Sullivan Road around 3:30pm.
Sheriff's deputies say John Hughes, 56 of New Carlisle was driving a F-150 pickup truck when witnesses say the truck suddenly veered off the side of the road and smashed into a tree.
Lt. Mike Whaley of the Miami County Sheriff's Office says those witnesses tried to help the man, "There was a witness that was following the victim and when he went off the left side of the road, they stopped and tried to help him; along with the nurse they were unsuccessful with CPR."
The man died at the scene. Investigators will try to reconstruct the crash to figure out exactly what happened. Right now, they suspect it could be a medical condition. An autopsy will be performed to see if that's the case.
