DAYTON -- All 28 Dayton area  hospitals require their employees to get the  flu vaccination. It became mandatory last summer for all employees by the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association also known as GDAHA.

6 nurses were fired in Indiana after they refused to get the flu vaccine.

Dayton Children's Hospital has required its employees to get the vaccination for the past two years, even before the mandate.

Terrie Koss, the hospital's infection preventionist says around 2,000 of its employees were vaccinated this fall.

Since the mandate one employee decided to walk away.

"We did not say you have to stay here and you have to get the flu shot, but to protect our patients its a requirement," said Koss.

Some argue requiring the vaccination infringes on employees rights, but Bryan Bucklew, President of the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association says its about the safety of patients.

However, workers can be exempted for religious or medical reasons..

"If there was a medical reason that your doctor submitted a note or you belong to a religious order, that didn't believe in vaccinations," said Bucklew.
