Citizens Police Academy Accepting Applications

KETTERING -- The Kettering Police Department is inviting adult members of the community to participate in the next Kettering Citizen’s Police Academy.

The curriculum and teaching methods of the academy will be similar to a traditional police academy; however, the participants will not become certified peace officers upon completion.

The purpose of the program is to build a better understanding between the citizens and the police.  Classes are scheduled once a week for 2 1/2 hours during this 10-week course.  Topics to be covered include patrol functions, use of force, role play scenarios, K-9 demonstrations, detective operations, and others.

It is recommended that students attend the entire 10-week academy.  The success of this program is directly related to the commitment of its participants.  The winter session is scheduled for Wednesday, February 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the Kettering Police Department.  Classes will be held every Wednesday from 6:30-9 p.m. for 10 weeks. Class size is limited to the first 20 students.

The deadline for registration is February 10. The class is free of charge and applicants can contact Officer Ron Roberts at 296-2458 or register online at www.ketteringoh.org.
