MONTGOMERY COUNTY -- If you're planning to party with a alcohol this holiday season, have a designated driver or remember this number: 449-9999.
The Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office is paying for free cab rides home anywhere in Montgomery County from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Dec. 21-24 and Dec. 29-31. The ArriveSafe program will pick up the fare, up to $50.
"Do you want to go home handcuffed in the back seat of a cruiser, or do you want to go home and have a happy celebration in the back seat of a cab, paid for by the Montgomery County Prosecutor," Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. said.
Heck said that since the program began in 2007, ArriveSafe has provided 2,500 free cab rides. There were 430 cab rides given over this Thanksgiving.
According to Dayton Police Lt. Wendy Stiver, there were 321 alcohol-related crashes in 2012 in Montgomery County, with 10 fatalities.
"That's 10 too many," Stiver said.
