RIVERSIDE -- After a salon and barber shop were defaced and destroyed, the police evidence crew is combing through the wreckage of the Intrinsic Dezign Shop and examining racist graffiti scrawled on the walls.
The vandals eluded security cameras at a nearby business.
Investigators now need help from the public. Until they identify a suspect, they can't classify this as a hate crime and perhaps make it a federal case.

RIVERSIDE -- A Riverside salon was broken into overnight along Harshman Road.
Intrinsic Dezign Barber& Beauty Salon walked into a shop destroyed with racial slurs painted on the walls.
It was difficult for Candis Hamilton to fight back tears when she stared at the swastika and racial slurs on the wall at the place she works.
"People shouldn't treat people like this. No matter your color," Hamilton said.
The slurs spray painted said things like "die" with the n-word.
Besides the hurtful words the vandals destroyed everything in the salon. Televisions, furniture, mirrors, sinks completely shattered.
The floors were also destroyed. Whoever broke in hit a water pipe, which soaked the place.
Candice and the other stylists will be left without work.
She says a nearby bar or an upset customer a few weeks ago could be to blame.
