UPDATE: DAYTON-- The Dayton Bomb Squad responded to a home on Kelly Avenue Tuesday morning, after a loud explosion was heard by neighbors.
"I thought someone was shooting!" Anita Miles said. Around 4 a.m. Miles heard 2 loud explosions coming from right outside her apartment in the 100 block of Kelley Avenue. "I was crying, It was traumatizing."
She said.
Terrified, Miles stayed awake for 3 hours, until daylight, and then went to get her cell phone so she could call 911.
" I thought they were gunshots, but someone bombed my neighbors house." She told the 911 dispatcher.
"I was scared. I tried to look out my window, to see if I could see anybody. I didn't see anybody." She said.
The explosion shattered her neighbors windows, and blew a wooden fence to bits.
Police came out and didn't find anybody home inside the targeted apartment, but they did find a rifle and 2 bags of marijuana.
Miles thinks someone was mad at her neighbor, and set off a commercial firecracker in front of his home.
"They left it there to harm whoever was inside." She said.
The Dayton Bomb Squad came to the scene and are still investigating exactly what kind of explosion was used.
"This is not something that is common. That is why we are going to make sure we figure out who did this." Dayton Police Lt. Eric Henderson said.
Police said whoever planted the explosion, will be facing felony arson charges.
The man who lives in the apartment, who has not been identified, may be facing some charges as well for the weed and the gun found in his home.
Earlier coverage:
DAYTON -- Kelly Avenue residents reported what sounded like two bombs or explosions of some kind about 4 a.m. Tuesday.
One witness we spoke to said they didn't go outside after the explosion until it got light because she was terrified.
A fence was damaged and a bedroom window of an apartment was shattered. Other debris from the blast also was scattered around.
There are no reports of injuries and some neighbors say it appears to have been some kind of professional or large-scale fireworks. A caller to 911 says the explosion made a "flash of light."
We asked police and they tell us it's too early to say what caused it.
