West Virginia Woman Helps Local Veteran

DAYTON -- A local veteran who spent months homeless and just moved into a place couldn't afford a stove. A generous woman from West Virginia has now stepped in to help.

Lisa Groves from Veterans Connections Incorporated heard about Michael Fortune's lack of appliances through her Facebook group.

She traveled all the way to Dayton to deliver him the stove he desperately needed. It's all part of her non-profit initiative to help veterans facing tough times get back on their feet.

Our cameras were rolling for the special delivery.

"She found out we needed a stove so next thing I know she's like we're coming over there because we got the funds for a stove and I'm like OK," said veteran Michael Fortune.

Fortune said the donation makes him feel "phenomenal."

"I was a veteran that was isolated, that was suicidal, didn't have no hope in my life and when I do this, this is a healing to me too," said Lisa Willis Groves from Veterans Connections Inc.

Groves has been traveling across the country helping veterans for 20 years. This was her second trip to Dayton.
