How Ohio's Budget Plan May Affect Family Planning Services

COLUMBUS -- Supporters of family planning clinics, including Planned Parenthood, continue to fight for funding in these final weeks of the Ohio budget process.

The budget plan currently in the State Senate would move some clinics that provide family planning services to the bottom of the list for federal dollars.

The move is largely seen as a way to de-fund Planned Parenthood, which provides abortions at some clinics.

It could also affect Ohio clinics that aren't associated with Planned Parenthood, but provide other kinds of reproductive health care.

Kim Mason of Family Health Services says "we're doing XYZ exams and I know this is total French, but these are basic services that women who don't have insurance or are under-insured, they can't get these services if in fact they need them."

The Senate Finance Committee is expected to hear testimony on the issue again on Friday.
