Toddler Burned After Falling Into Campground Fire Pit

QUINCY -- A 2-year-old boy was seriously burned after falling into a fire pit at a Logan County campground.

The accident happened Wednesday afternoon at the Oakdale Campground.

According to emergency officials, the boy was playing near the fire pit when he tripped and  fell into the pit. When he fell he came in contact with the metal pit.

Fire officials tell us the boy received third-degree burns to his hands and arms and second-degree burns to his chest.  He was flown by CareFlight to Dayton Children's Medical Center.

Officials say that his mother was right next to him, so luckily she was able to grab him right after it happened.

"I think we were lucky that somebody was close by and snapped him right out of that pit, so somebody was right there and soon as he fell in they got him right back out so that's a great thing," said Quincy Assistant Fire Chief Angie MacConnell.

The father told our news crew that they stay at the campground for the summer.
