Miami Township -- Christmas came early for almost two dozen underprivileged children as Montgomery County law enforcement, First Freedom Church and Meijer teamed up for the annual Shop With a Hero event.
Officers helped the children fill their carts to the brim with toys, clothes and assorted presents for their families Tuesday evening. Each child was given a $225 Meijer gift card to spend on their shopping spree.
Mother of four Shannon Moore could barely contain her excitement at the prospect of participating in the event.
"It really made my Christmas because we're in a situation where we couldn't have done it without them," she said.
When asked how excited she was to pick out a whole cart full of various items, nine-year-old Trinity Angel reflected more on her family than herself.
"Excited because it saved my mom money for Christmas."
