West Carrollton Increases Speed Limit Through Business Corridor

West Carrollton -- Drivers through the city of West Carrollton will soon be able to press down a little bit further on the gas pedal after city council unanimously voted to raise the speed limit through the Central Avenue and Dixie Highway business corridor during its meeting Tuesday.

The speed limit through the area was actually reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph a few weeks ago, but that change drew the ire of many residents who saw the the reduction as the city's attempt to establish a speed trap. As a compromise, city officials agree to set the new speed limit at 30 mph.

"We're still meeting safety concerns, but allowing people to hopefully get to their destinations a little more quickly," said city official Gregory Gains.

The change comes as a mixed blessing to Alexis Hamblin who works in West Carrollton.

"It's better than 25, but you still feel like you're creeping, especially since those cameras are going to get you anyway," she said.

But hold up speed demons, the new changes don't become official until Jan. 10.
