CINCINNATI -- University of Cincinnati Medical Center says the La Salle High School student who shot himself in class this morning is in critical condition.
Also, Local 12 in Cincinnati is reporting that the family of the boy is asking for privacy in this time and asking the boy's fellow students not to talk about the incident on social media outlets.
Law enforcement officials are expected to hold a news conference later this afternoon to update the public about the events.
Dispatchers told Local 12 that a number of students at the school called 911 to report the shooting. One of those students told dispatchers that the shooting happened in a third-floor classroom.
âWe were in the classroom, third floor on the top floor, me and my friend were just sitting there. ... He pulled it out of the desk and somebody opened the door and I got out," the student said on the 911 call.

UPDATE: Student Shoots Self in Classroom at La Salle High School
CINCINNATI -- Police and school officials recently concluded the initial press conference outside La Salle High School, where they say a student walked into a classroom and shot himself.
That student is the only reported injury and he has been taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The student's condition have not been released but officials say he is "fighting for his life."
All other students at La Salle were taken to the gymnasium and parents are being told they can pick up their kids at this time. The school is no longer on lockdown.
Hamilton County 911 is repoting that Green Township Police were at first only releasing students being picked up by parents. Self-driving students were the next to be released next.
Greg Tankersly, an administrator at La Salle, asks everyone to pray for this student and his family at this time.
Tanksersly said students will be able to meet with counselors to help deal with the shooting.
There was still no word on whether school would be canceled today.
