DAYTON -- A Dayton woman says she asked the city for speed bumps on her street three years ago, and now she is cleaning up her front porch after an out of control driver runs into her home.

"There are lots of kids around here and people just don't care," said Deloris Saunders.

If you want to get Saunders fired up, just ask her about all the accidents she's seen near her house.

"They got hit, he's had his car hit so many times, they had an RTA bus in their yard there was a car turned up side down but we just had so many," she said pointing to her neighbors homes.

And Friday, she had to add her own house to the list as a driver ran over  the curb and hit her front porch.

"We have rocks to keep the cars from jumping the curbs and they still do it," she said.

The city of Dayton tells us there have been five accidents reported on Arbor Avenue in the last three years, most of them minor, but Saunders says it's too many.

"I pay my taxes I want  speed bumps or a three-way stop to slow these cars down," she said.

Residents who want a speed bump on their street have to get backing from two thirds of the neighbors on their street. Saunders says she did that, but there is one big thing that can get in the way of getting a speed bump.

"In cases when we have a street with a city bus then we typically do not put in a speed bump," said Steve Finke of Dayton Public Works. "Because it defects them."

"It's nerve-racking it's really taken a toll," said Saunders. "We lived here for so long I don't want to move but I just want my peace and quiet."

Each speed bumps cost about $2000. If you'd like to request a speed bump on your street call Dayton Traffic and Engineering at 937-333-4075.
