BOSTON -- Marathon bombings suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev had received state welfare benefits, the Boston Herald reports.
Massachusetts officials confirmed Tuesday that Tsarnaev, killed in a gunfight with police on Friday, was receiving state benefits, as was his wife, Katherine Russell, and their 3-year-old daughter, until 2012. The couple stopped meeting income eligibility limits at the time the benefits ended.
The Herald reports that Russell Tsarnaevâs attorney has claimed Katherine â who had reportedly converted to Islam â was working as much as 80 hours a week while Tsarnaev stayed at home.
Tsarnaevâs parents also received benefits, the paper reports.
