Man Dies After Falling from 12th Floor Apartment at Dayton Towers

DAYTON -- A man died after he reportedly fell from his 12th floor apartment Sunday evening.

Police were called to the Dayton Towers and found a woman performing CPR on a man at the side of the building. The officer said he took over performing CPR until medics arrived, who pronounced the man dead at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said two women were playing cards in their first-floor apartment when they heard a loud "thump" outside. They found the man lying in the grass. That's when one of the women, identified as Deborah Snyder, took action. She called 911, handed the phone to her friend, Jean Mitchell, and then Snyder began CPR.

The man has been identified as 65-year-old Stephen B. Ross.

Ross' ankles were broken and police said there were two deep impressions in the grass near where Ross fell.

Police said they found a window-washing squeegee and a cane with electrical tape on the ground near Ross' body. Inside Ross' apartment police said they found an open window with a bottle of glass cleaner on the window sill and a stool near the window. The window appeared to have been cleaned on the right side but was still dirty on the left.
