Vectren officials say April gas bills will be higher because the month of March was 145% colder than last March.
Vectren does offer assistance programs and payment plans to help people with high bills.
But the company also says there are some things you can do around the house to keep your bill low.
First, keep your thermostat at 68 degrees, because anything above that will add three percent to your energy bill.
Next, unplug small appliances, like microwaves and any gadgets you're not using, like cell phone chargers because keeping them plugged in drains energy.
And lastly, check exterior doors for leaks, and then seal them with weather stripping so the warm air stays inside.
