UD Students Protest Pay for Custodial Staff

DAYTON -- Students at the University of Dayton hold a protest Thursday trying to get better wages for custodial workers.

A student group called ''Education & Action in Dayton'' stood in front of the Kennedy Student Union on UD's campus asking the university to help the janitorial workers they say are living in poverty.

"By paying them low wages it kinda shows, gives the message out that the administration values them so little that they're actually paying them less than it costs to live." Bill McCaden, a University of Dayton senior told us.

University officials say the issue the students protested about is a valid one, but the custodial workers are outside contractors, not University of Dayton employees and their jobs are unionized.
