MERCER COUNTY - Itâs been a tough 16 months for the Grube family and sheriff investigators in Mercer County.
The murders of 70 year old, Robert Grube and his daughter, Colleen Grube, 47, have haunted rural Mercer County for nearly a year and a half. It has been especially tough for the family.
âIt was my cousinâs wife, her family had been murdered and when you come from a small community, Fort Recovery, you donât hear anything like that happening around hereâ said Tonja Klenke, Celina Resident.
Investigators have worked non-stop to find the Grubeâs killers since they were found duct tapes and shot in their home in November 2011.
âItâs only halftime right now, weâve made an arrest, but the goal wasnât an arrest, it was a convictionâ said Jeff Grey, Mercer County Sheriff.
Tuesday, Mercer County Sheriffâs deputies arrested Bryant Rhoades, 22. They say he lied to authorities as to where one of the murder accomplices lived.
Wednesday, police announced Trevin Sanders, 18, with 27 criminal counts ranging from aggravated homicide to robbery. Sanders was 17 at the time of the murders, and heâs currently behind bars in Indiana on unrelated charges.
Mercer County Sheriff says the Grube case has involved: 129 court documents, 329 interviews, questioned 268 people and received 88 tips.
With the latest arrests family members and the community may finally be a step closer to some peace.
âI think weâre finally starting to get a sense of safety back, Iâll take a little bit but, you see a small town pulling together and thatâs all we can do to protect one anotherâ said Klenke.
Mercer County Sheiffâs Office say the investigation is far from over, and they expect more arrest and suspects. They encourage people with information relating to the Grube murder case to call their tip line at (567) 890-TIPS.
