FAIRBORN â For the 13,000 civilian employees to be furloughed, those notices will be handed down starting Wednesday through Friday. For many of the people affected, they say itâs something theyâve been preparing for.
Rachel Castle is one of the 13,000 to be furloughed next month. While sheâs been preparing for sequestration, itâs now hitting home.
âJust cutting out those little luxuries, and even some things we enjoy like not going out to eat as much, just doing what we have to do to be responsible citizens and pay our bills yet still deal with the pay cutsâ said Rachel Castle, Furloughed Civilian Employee.
Wright Patterson Air Force Base has held several town halls to help prepare those being furloughed. Informational sessions like this help with things like finances and family readiness.
âSome people are concerned about the work theyâre leaving behind and not being able to accomplish all their work, some employees are concerned about their salaries and how theyâre going to make ends meet at home and pay their billsâ Col. Cassie Barlow, 88th Air Base Wing Commander.
Base officials say maintaining 100 percent of their workload with fewer employees will be challenging. The planned furlough days will vary amongst each organization. The planned furlough days will vary amongst each organization.
For Rachel, who just bought a new home with her husband, all she can do is prepare to live on a smaller budget.
âI have an online Budget tool that I use and Iâve been looking at that daily, and been looking at what I can cut out of my budget, what can I do to get through this timeâ said Barlow.
The furlough period is expected to take affect starting April 26 through September 21.
