DAYTON -- The sequester affects will trickle down through the rest of the community. The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare met to discuss how the blind cuts will affect seniors, public health and minorities in Dayton.

The panel also included a doctor, a pastor. They took questions from the audience on the affects of cuts to medicare and medicaid.

"Healthcare for example and seniors who are not well fed who depend heavily on meals on wheels will be punished. That affects their health, their immune system overall," Dr. Don Nguyen of Doctors for America said.

"The Social Security Administration has already been cut over time leading to local office closures and reduced hours at many locations," said Shawn Phetteplace, grassroots manager for The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. "Sequestration will not cut benefits, but the possibility exists that further administrative cuts could lead to more local office shut downs and a further reduction in hours that employees can meet face to face with beneficiaries."

The panel urged attendees to personally contact their law makers to tell them how cuts to their health care would affect them.
