DAYTON -- The Dayton MSA took first place in the nation for economic development projects in the tier two category by Site Selection magazine, announced today by magazine editors.
Tier two is comprised of metropolitans with populations from 200,000 to 1 million. Additionally, Ohio took second place honors in the 2012 Site Selection Governorâs Cup, which the magazine has awarded annually since 1978 for the state with the most new and expanded corporate facilities.
âThis is tremendous news for the Dayton Region and a great victory for all our regional economic development partners," said Jeff Hoagland, President & CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition. âThese awards and recognitions prove that businesses are looking at the Dayton Region and the State of Ohio and what they are finding are great places to do business.â
The New Plant database for Site Selection Magazine focuses on new corporate location projects with significant impact. New facilities and expansions included in the analyses must meet at least one of three criteria -- involve a capital investment of at least $1 million, create at least 50 new jobs or add at least 20,000 square feet of new floor area. The database does not track retail and government projects, or schools and hospitals.
"This recognition from a national publication will make the Dayton Region even more attractive to companies who want to do business here,â said Dr. Daniel J. Curran, President of the University of Dayton and Chairman of the Dayton Development Coalition Board of Trustees. âThe strong foundation of our university community along with the great work coming out of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base spurs new investments and helps businesses prosper. This coupled with critical private sector high-tech research, plus our highly skilled work force is major attractions for business.â
