MIAMI VALLEY -- Walmart today said it is installing solar panels on several Ohio stores, including Xenia, Greenville, Franklin and Middletown.
The solar panel installations will add approximately 6 million kWh of generation production â enough energy to power more than 820 homes â and are expected to supply approximately 5-20 percent of each storeâs overall electricity use.
âSolar power makes sense for Walmart, and it makes sense for Ohio,â said David Ozment, Walmart Senior Director of Energy. âWe are committed to increasing the use of renewable energy resources, including solar panels, at our stores in Ohio and throughout the country.â
Bill Spratley, Executive Director of Green Energy Ohio, said the company's installation of solar on 12 store rooftops is the largest solar commitment ever made by a retail business in Ohio.
âAt more than four and a half megawatts, it represents almost a tenth of all the solar installed in Ohio currently," Spratley said. "It is exciting to see that Walmart's solar arrays will also eliminate 5,500 tons of CO2e or the equivalent of taking the emissions of 1,152 cars off the road each year.â
Others stores getting the first round of solar panels are Mason, Austintown, Youngstown, Toledo, Milford, Loveland and two systems in Cincinnati.
