DAYTON -- It is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lenten Season in the Catholic Church. The 40 day period leads up to Easter Sunday.
Wednesday at the University of Dayton, hundreds gathered at the Immaculate Conception Chapel to received their ashes. During the Lenten season, many UD students are also accepting a challenge on Twitter. The question was posted to the UD community, ''What are your plans to grow closer to God?''
That challenge comes just days after Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation. Some students call the act selfless, "Ultimately, it makes us realize that we are only human, you know God is the overarching man in power."
Every Monday during Lent, UD's Campus Ministry will hold a prayer service to support students on their spiritual journey through Lent.
