Kettering Removes School Levy From May Ballot, Will Wait for Kasich Funding Plan

KETTERING -- In light of Gov. John Kasich's new school funding formula, and its potential of additional funding, the Kettering Board of Education on Tuesday voted to remove its 5.9 mil levy from the May 7 ballot.

"The district will wait to see what new state money, if any, materializes from the new state funding formula and then place the levy back on the ballot in November, with adjusted millage, if possible and appropriate," a news release from the school district reads.

The release mentioned that Kasich's formula is just a proposal and still must make it through the legislature, which will take several months.

"It is very difficult to predict how the new funding formula will fare in the Ohio Legislature," the release states.

The release said there is considerable disagreement over the calculations and the exact amount of any potential increase.
