UPDATE -- 25-year-old Tanner Hopkins pleaded not guilty to the murder and reckless homicide in the death of his unborn child Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015.
Hopskins is accused of kicking the mother of his unborn baby so severely the baby died, The child's mother remains hospitalized in critical condition tonight.
The incident happened earlier this month at a home on Edison Street in Dayton.
Someone discovered the injured woman who was seven months pregnant in the middle of the street and called 911.
Police said Hopkins has a violent criminal history including assaulting a peace officer.
He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 bond and is due back in court Friday.

DAYTON -- A pregnant woman is beaten so badly her unborn child dies. You can hear the victim in the background of the 911 call. She was seven months pregnant. She was in the middle of the street when the caller found her.
In the 911 call, the victim says it is the baby’s father who attacked her. That man, 25-year-old Tanner Hopkins, is facing felony aggravated assault charges. Hopkins could face charges for the death of the fetus.
"The detectives will present as much information as they can find to the prosecutors and the prosecutors will make a determination on what the actual charge is," said Wendy Stiver, with the Dayton Police Dept.
Police say Hopkins has a violent criminal history, including assaulting a peace officer.
Police think the victim was attacked inside and able to walk to the corner of Decker Ave and Edison St.
Neighbors say they saw police detectives going in and out of a house on Edison St. Wednesday morning.
The victim is in critical condition right now. Her name has not been released.
"All homicides are disturbing. This is particularly disturbing because there's a child involved," said Stiver.
