TROY -- PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is honoring the firefighters who on Monday, Jan. 12, helped save the life of a dog trapped in the icy waters of the Great Miami River.
PETA said the firefighters will receive the Compassionate Fire Department Award and a box of vegan chocolates.
"The Troy Fire Department's dedication in saving Stella deserves a round of applause," says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. "PETA hopes the firefighters' willingness to jump into action will inspire others to come to the aid of animals in need."
PETA also is sending the Troy Fire Department a copy of "The Engine 2 Diet," a Texas firefighter's 28-day plan for staying healthy by eating plant-based meals.
