Women Face Unique Fitness Challenges

CINCINNATI -- If you are struggling to meet a few fitness goals this New Year, maybe you need some girl power. Medical Reporter Liz Bonis has a great example of a program that is just that, called Chickfit.

“The mission I have is that I want each and every woman to feel great about herself, when she looks in the mirror,” said Linda Mitchell of Chickfit Studio.

It's hard not to feel like you stepped into a group of girlfriends when you walk into a class at Chickfit, Linda Mitchell started Chickfit with some simple goals in mind:

“Women don't like to bulk up, they like to be lean and that’s the kind of body we work to achieve,” Mitchell said.

The idea behind Chickfit is what the name implies. It's that a woman’s body has different fitness needs than a guy’s and if you do it right you can specifically work and target those areas.

That was what brought in Rebecca Heck.

“My goal originally was to lose the 10-15 pounds I had gained from having kids and getting busy,” Rebecca said.

Rebecca soon found that with the help of everything from rip cords to battle ropes she noticed some big changes in her body.

“Oh, huge, Linda is a transformation queen, absolutely,” Rebecca said.

A bootcamp-style class starts with the basics of hand wrapping for boxing and then moves on to the real focus: targeting the trouble zones from arm strength to ab flab. As you start to get into it, you realize what it’s all about: Stepping up to life's challenges and not being afraid to face your fears.

“It’s just a great feeling to be able to take that on and know that you can do it, You can do more than you thought you could do,” Rebecca said.

Chickfit offers national retreats, too. Find more information about that here.
