HOLLYWOOD -- Academy award nominations were announced Thursday morning. Eight films are up for a Best Picture Oscar, including:
"American Sniper," the story of a Navy SEAL's return home.
"Birdman," about a washed-up actor's past as a Hollywood super hero.
"Boyhood," the family drama that took 12 years to film.
"The Grand Budapest Hotel," a comedy about a wacky hotel and its staff.
"The Imitation Game," the story of a World War II code breaker.
"Selma," about the famous civil rights march.
"The Theory of Everything," a bio-pic about physicist Stephen J. Hawking's early life.
And "Whiplash," the story of a young drummer's musical education.
