DAYTON -- Mark Avery, owner of âSim Trainerâ shooting range in Dayton, says the inaugural 'Gun Appreciation Day' is gun rights activistsâ way of showing their opposition to President Obama's tough gun law proposals he issued this week.
Things like, universal background checks, a ban on military assault weapons and limiting magazine clips to ten.
"The second amendment foundation and various pro-gun groups in the state of Ohio, are a little bit concerned about some of the President's administration's stances on firearms" said Mark Avery, Sim Trainer owner.
Avery says for the few pro-gun groups who participated, they went to the statehouse in Columbus to protest the President... However there wasn't much of a local showing.
"Because its something of the recent past, and it wasn't well publicized, there weren't a whole lot of people locally participating because it was spurred by recent events and that take time to spread the word" said Avery.
While many we talk to didn't know much about gun appreciation day, they did have an opinion.
"If people want to carry around guns, I mean, if that's what they want to do" said Drew Williams, Dayton.
"I mean, I don't think it is right to be taking away gun from people, if they want to protect themselves, they have a right to protect themselves" said Kyle Goddard.
While the President signed 23 executive orders on guns this week, several of his proposals must go through Congress first.
