DAYTON -- The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial March and Rally will take place Monday and some Dayton streets will be temporarily closed as a result.
The march begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Charles R. Drew Health Center (1323 W. Third St.) and will proceed to downtown Dayton, ending with a rally at the Dayton Convention Center (22 E. Fifth St.).
The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic during the march:
West Third Street, from Paul Laurence Dunbar to Jefferson Streets
Broadway, from Second to Fourth Streets
Edwin C. Moses Boulevard, from Riverview Avenue to Fourth Street
Perry Street, from Second to Fourth Streets
Wilkinson Street, from Second to Fourth Streets
Ludlow Street, from Second to Third Streets
Robert Drive at Third Street
South Main Street, from Third to Sixth Streets
Fifth Street, from Main to Jefferson Streets.
Intersecting streets also will be closed on an as-needed basis to facilitate vehicular traffic while ensuring the participants safety. For further information on the march and other events taking place prior to and on Martin Luther King Day in Dayton, visit www.mlkdayton.org.
Also, In observance of the holiday, City of Dayton offices will be closed on Monday.
During the week of January 21, waste collection and recycling services for City of Dayton residents only will be moved back one day throughout the week. City of Dayton customers who usually have waste and recyclables collected on Monday will have Tuesday collection; Tuesday collections will occur on Wednesday, and so on, through Friday. There will be no bulk pick-up services on Friday, January 25.
This scheduling change does not affect Riverside and Jefferson Township customers. Waste collection services will be maintained as usual in those areas throughout the week.
Regular business hours for all City of Dayton offices will resume on Tuesday, January 22.
