Beavercreek Police Warn Residents About Pop Bottle Bombs

BEAVERCREEK -- The Dayton Bomb Squad responded to a Beavercreek neighborhood Sunday after "pop bottle" bombs were found for the second night in a row.

The bomb squad responded to the area of Wedgewood Court about 1:00 Monday morning after neighbors reported hearing loud explosives. Officers say they found 20 ounce water bottles and plastic 2-liter bottles with explosive devices in them. Police says this is not the first time they have found these devices in the area.

Police have investigated a series of explosions between January 10 and 13 in the Hunter's Ridge and Christalee Acres neighborhoods.

The Dayton Bomb Squad was called on January 13 to assist when two potentially hazardous devices that failed to detonate were found in the 2300 block of Wedgewood Drive. The bomb squad safely detonated the devices.

Officers are not sure who is responsible for setting off the pop bottle bombs. Witnesses say they saw two teenage boys running from the area.

Police say anyone finding a “pop bottle bomb” device should immediately call 911 for help. Do not pick it up or attempt to move it as doing so could result in serious injury.

The Beavercreek Police Department is asking anyone with information as to the identity of the suspects responsible for these crimes to call the Beavercreek Police Department Tip Line at 937-320-7393.
