MONTGOMERY COUNTY -- The man accused of shooting at a pharmacist and a Miami Township police officer entered no contest pleas to several counts in connection with that incident.
After entering the plea, Michael Edward Fischer, 42, of West Carrollton, was found guilty as charged.
You may remember on October 8, 2011, Fischer, armed with an assault rifle, entered the Walgreenâs on Springboro Pike in Miami Township and robbed the pharmacy of prescription pain medicine. Fischer fired a shot at one of the employees inside the pharmacy.
When a Miami Township Police Officer arrived at the Walgreenâs on a report of a robbery in progress, the defendant came out of the store armed with an AKâ47 and opened fire at the officer, striking his cruiser several times. The officer was able to escape being shot, and returned fire, striking Fischer.
Today, Fischer was found guilty of:
-1 count of Aggravated Robbery with a deadly weapon
-1 count of Felonious Assault with a deadly weapon
-1 count of Kidnapping
-1 count of Vandalism of Government Property
-1 count of Felonious Assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer
All of the counts except for vandalism include 3 year firearm specifications. Additionally, the felonious assault on a police officer includes a 7 year firearm specification. The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on January 31, 2013.
Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck says, âThis defendant shot at the pharmacist inside the store as well as fired a number of shots at the responding police officer. Thankfully the officer, as well as those inside the pharmacy, were not harmed. Had it not been for the quick actions and good judgment of the officer, the outcome could have been deadly.â
