ENGLEWOOD-- A 33 -year veteran of the Trotwood Police Department
died this morning when his truck plunged into a ravine, in Englewood.
Police said Trotwood officer Dave Yaney was driving his pick-up truck down Taywood Road when he lost control, hit a guard rail and his truck went airborne. The pick-up plunged down the 35-foot ravine into Buttermilk Falls Creek.
Emergency crews worked all morning to pull the red pickup truck out of the water using a large crane. Search and rescue divers were able to go in the water and recovered Officer Yaney's body.
"This is just terrible." Witness Tonya Reichert said. "What a tragedy to lose somebody. My heart goes out to them. Just pray for them." She said.
Trotwood Police Chief Quincy Pope released this statement today:
"Officer David Yaney was a 33 year veteran of the Trotwood Police Department. Officer Yaney was not only a colleague and friend, but he was our family. We are heart broken and grief stricken. It is hard to find the words to express our feelings of loss and sadness. We ask that you keep the family, the Trotwood Police Department, and our community in your prayers."
It is still unclear why Officer Yaney lost control of his truck. Investigators are hoping to learn more after an autopsy is done.
