He was arrested and transported to a juvenile detention facility to await court proceedings.

He faces the following charges:

• Disorderly Conduct, a 4th degree Misdemeanor

"Urbana police appreciate the quick action taken by the high school administrators in dealing with the student and in notifying police quickly," Lingrell said. "Urbana City Schools and Urbana police have a strong partnership and our schools administrators and staffs do a great job in dealing with dangerous and/or criminal incidents whenever they occur, being cognizant of the safety of everyone within the school.

Student Brings Broken BB Gun To School

URBANA -- A high school student is facing suspension and possible expulsion after he brought a BB gun to school Monday. Urbana School officials say another student reported the incident, and that the BB gun was broken.

This is being considered a "low level incident," however the district takes every report seriously.  The superintendent says it's unclear why student brought the BB gun.

"The only thing that came up, was lack of trust. [He] couldn't trust anybody at the school," said Superintendent Charles Thiel.

Thiel said the school did not go into lockdown because the student was in a classroom right next to the office. Police escorted the student off the property. No word on what charges, if any, he will face.

Every parent in the district received an automated phone message about the incident.
