DAYTON -- A woman was arrested Thursday night and charged with soliciting after an undercover detective arranged to have sex with her for $150.
A Dayton police detective said he found an advertisement on backpage.com that claimed "East Dayton's Best Kept Secret." Police said they have conducted operations in the past connected with that website, which resulted in arrests of both prostitutes and johns.
Police say Karen Smith, 40, of 437 St. Nicholas Ave., Dayton, arranged by phone to have sex for $150. A detective, wearing an audio/video wireless transmitter, went to her apartment and asked, "Is regular sex OK with you." When she replied that it was, the detective signaled officers to approach and arrest Smith.
Smith told them she had a heroin problem and was going to use the money to buy drugs. She said she has been an escort for five years.
Police reported no previous prostitution-related convictions. They requested the Dayton Municipal Court give her an HIV test, if she is convicted.
