KETTERING -- During the holidays a lot is on your mind from shopping, to traveling and getting that Christmas dinner together, but what about your health?
Doctor Prashanth Baht at Kettering Medical Center says heâs seen more people than usual come through the emergency room doors.
âThis time of year there are quite a few viruses running around, and people are inside within close proximity to each otherâ said Dr. Prashanth Baht, Kettering Medical Center.
When people are bunched together such as in airports and shopping malls, viruses can easily spread, increasing the chance of getting sick.
Hand washing and covering coughs go a long way to staying healthy.
Many doctors also recommend getting flu shots, but what about hidden dangers like holiday dinners which if left out for too long can cause food born illness.
West Carrollton resident, Edward Kingâs got the answer.
âMake sure all the food is warmed up properly, make sure itâs all prepped properly, put away properly because tomorrow, weâre going to be eating the same thing againâ said Edward King, West Carrollton.
While it can be overlooked during the holidays, be careful of stress levels.
âStress and lack of sleep it does wear your body down and makes you more likely to get an illnessâ said Dr. Baht.
Parents should pay extra attention to their kids over the holidays because their immune systemâs still developing, they can get sick quicker than adults.
