FAIRBORN -- The price for a gallon of gas in the area is as low as it's been in recent memory and the timing couldn't be better.
Local gas prices have plunged below $3 a gallon and motorists filling up at the Valero on St. Rt. 444 in Fairborn Wednesday were taking full advantage of the respite from the spiraling fuel costs. To them, it was like Christmas come early.
"It really helps, especially being around the Christmas season," one driver observed. "I just hope that it stays low for awhile. Hopefully in the New Year it will be low all year long."
The average price for a gallon of gas in the Dayton area is $2.97, but it was spotted for just $2.87 a gallon at the Marathon station on South Dixie Highway in Franklin.
