Two Springboro H.S. Students in Trouble for Threatening Posts

SPRINGBORO -- Two Springboro High School students are suspended because of a Facebook post.

Superintendent Todd Petrey emailed a letter to students and parents Tuesday night,  explaining what happened.

The district says on Friday night, two 15-year-old students allegedly made threatening comments on Facebook.  The comments basically implied the students would cause a massacre similar to the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.

The letter states a "...thorough investigation is underway. The students are not attending Springboro schools." The letter goes on to say, "Springboro students reported this information to the necessary district administrative staff.  The administrators immediately contacted the Springboro District Resource Officer and (the superintendent) who then involved legal authorities."

ABC 22/FOX 45 spoke with Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell by phone Tuesday evening, he says the post that triggered it all read, "If I see one more post about this shooting maybe Springboro will be as well known as Newtown, CT.  So please be quiet."

Fornshell says a friend of student one then replied with, "Im with yah man.  Lets use our guns one last time before they take them away for good."

Both those teens are now facing a disorderly conduct charge and the incident told parents to speak with their kids about the severity of making comments on Facebook that could be perceived as threatening.

"The parents just need to teach their kids good common sense practices.  This is nothing to joke about or make light of.  You have to remember a lot of people are reading their posts more than they realize," said Springboro High School parent Kevin Chandler.

Fornshell said he believes the teens didn't have any intent to actually follow through with the threats.  He's calling the remarks inappropriate and insensitive, and enough to cause public concern.
