Man Caught Watching Porn at Work; Sentencing Tuesday

DAYTON -- An education assistant indicted after child pornography was reportedly found on his computer is expected to be sentenced Tuesday.

Byron Layman was arrested after officers spent three years investigating claims from his co-workers that he was downloading child pornography at work.

Layman pleaded guilty June 11 to four counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor and three counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. Under the plea deal he could serve up to 18 months in prison for each count.

A warrant was first issued for 70-year-old Layman in March for downloading child porn.

Layman was a part-time education assistant at the Germantown Nature Center. He often worked with kids, taking them on nature hikes. When he was reportedly caught watching porn by employees, he was placed on unpaid leave. Layman then quit his job and left the state. Authorities caught up with him and he was arrested.

Soon after the warrant was issued, we spoke to the Chief of Rangers and he tells us that they do not believe Layman was inappropriate with any of the kids. He was only indicted on the Internet searches.

More child porn was found on his computer in his Centerville home. His sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.
