Rain Causes Flooding in Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY -- Miami County got .12 inches of rain Sunday and that was enough to send creeks overflowing.

"I've been walking in it all day long trying to grab stuff as it was flowing away trying to keep the tubes cleaned out so water could go down through it," said Conover resident Ashley Noble.

Noble doesn't normally have to walk on water when she leaves her house.

"We hope it doesn't happen again for a while, this is the second time in the last two years it's happened.  It's a pain in the butt to clean up," she said. "There's mud everywhere."

"My basement inside is full of water. I didn't even know it was raining," said Lawrence Barnes of Fletcher.

"This is inside where the waters at now. This will be good for my insurance," he said pointing to his flooded car.

At the Barnes' residence the water got up to 27 inches in their backyard.

"When I first looked out the window water was up under our trees and I said, 'You better get out of the bed we've been flooded.' We have a little bitty leaks in the house, she (his wife) thought that's what it was and I said no we've been flooded," he said.

"A lot of rain in a short time. We just have to turn off the rain," said Phyllis McEowen of Conover.

A flooded driveway is not what McEowen normally sees when she sits on her front porch, but as you drive through Fletcher and Conover, you'll  notice nothing was normal Monday.

McEowen has been around for a while and knows to expect the abnormal.

"This isn't the worst one," she said. "We had one in 1995 that was the worst one, they got in the house.  This one hasn't gotten in the house."

So while these folks wait for the water to drain and for their town to get back to normalcy, there is just one request:

"No more rain, we need no more rain for a while; it's soaked," said Noble.
