MIAMI COUNTY -- A man reportedly shot and killed himself following a domestic dispute and fire at a house on North County Road 25A.
According to Miami County Sheriff's Lt. Steve Lord, deputies arrived to find a man outside the house with a shotgun and two people, presumably his ex-wife and stepchild, inside the house.
At some point, Lord said an accelerant was used to set the deck on fire, which reportedly spread to an attached garage.
Lord said deputies staged the fire department along the road until the scene was safe.
The man reportedly fire three shots from a shotgun. Deputies say they found the man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"There were some frantic calls made to 911," Lord said. "Deputies got on scene. They weren't even aware the house was on fire. They were able to get (the woman and child) out through a rear window and get them to safety."
Neither the woman nor child was injured.
Fletcher Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Brinkman said they were able to save the home, although a car sustained damage the barn was completely engulfed.
