DAYTON--A truck that helps the homeless was stolen over the fourth of July holiday.

The truck was stolen from a parking lot on Edwin C Moses Blvd. It belongs to the  organization  Homefull, and its  used to help the homeless daily.

"It felt like a slap in the face." Homefull Executive Director Tina Patterson said.

The red 1988 GMC Sierra pick-up truck  may not look like much to the  average person,  but to Homefull, it was a godsend.

"We used it so much.  It was like old faithful."  When Patterson came into work Friday morning and discovered  the truck  was stolen,  she  had  a sinking feeling.

"We felt like geez,  they were literally  taking from the homeless and for us,  that is the  worst possible thing you can do."

Homefull uses the truck to haul furniture when  moving  families  from  homeless  shelters into permanent housing.

The truck is also used for their landscaping program.  The program  puts homeless  men back to work.  They mow more than 50 vacant lots around the city.

"Not only is it about  homeless people going to work, it's about beautification and taking care of our neighborhoods." Patterson said.

Without  the truck,  Patterson said  it  puts the brakes on not only their furniture delivery  services,   it also  leaves about a dozen people without a job.

"They will actually be out of work  until  we can figure out how to replace the vehicle." She said.

The truck's license plate PHU  7609.

If you spot the truck or have any information about the crime call Dayton Police at 333 COPS.
