DAYTON -- A catalytic converter was stolen from a man's car Saturday while he was at church.
Dayton Police responded Saturday morning to a theft call at Grace United Methodist Church on Salem Avenue. A woman said she pulled into the church parking lot about 9:30 a.m. and saw two men under a church member's 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, and a woman standing "lookout" nearby.
She said when she drove by the suspects exited the parking lot quickly, but not before she took down the license plate number of a green GMC Jimmy.
Police tracked down the suspect vehicle and traced it to the suspects, who were arrested and facing felony theft charges. They are 19-year-old Chelsea Clark of Dayton; 29-year-old Timothy O'Dell of Dayton; 18-year-old Cora Godsey of Dayton and 22-year-old Jacob Sutton of Dayton. Sutton told police he was in the Jimmy but didn't get out during the alleged robbery.
Police said Godsey told them they sold the catalytic converter and then sold it "to an old guy down the street who buys the converters," the report reads. Godsey said she could lead police to this man. The report does not reveal if the police followed up with him.
All four suspects were taken to the Montgomery County Jail.
