COLUMBUS -- Beginning today, the state is lowering its fee for late renewal of motor vehicle registration.
As of July 1, the fee is dropping from $20 to $10. Also, the previous seven-day grace period associated with the fee has been extended to 30 days.
It is still illegal to operate a motor vehicle after the registration expires.
To avoid the late fee, the BMV says to complete renewals up to 90 days before the expiration date, either in person, at a deputy registrar, by mail or online at www.oplates.com.
