OAKWOOD -- Hawthorn Hill, the home of Orville Wright and his family, has been turned over to the National Park Service, the Dayton Foundation announced today at an announcement in front of the historic home.
Dayton Foundation Governing Board Chair Jerome F. Tatar and Dayton Foundation President Michael M. Parks made the announcement about 2 p.m. today, saying the transfer to the federal Park Service will be significant to the Greater Dayton community and to the preservation of Dayton's place in aviation history.
The home had been owned by the NCR Corporation after Orville Wright's death. NCR donated the property in 2006 to the Wright Family Foundation.
