Holiday Tipping Etiquette

BEAVERCREEK -- The holiday season is all about giving, so don't forget those who do regular work for you.

"I probably tip them 3-4 times more during the holidays than I would on a monthly service," said Kevin Hyde.

The list includes hairstylists, nail techs and massage therapists.

"I think it shows the appreciation of them spending their time on helping me," said Hyde.

"If you're going to give a monetary gift at the holidays you may want to consider giving the cost of one of the services to the person that you're giving to or you might want to double the regular tip that you give them," said Sandy Hyde, the President and Founder of the Ohio School of Etiquette.

She also says it doesn't have to be monetary either.

"Perhaps you give them candy, or flowers, or a gift basket or if you know they have a hobby, give them a gift certificate that will help support their hobby and their interest," she said.

One very important person you shouldn't forget is your child's teacher.

"They do so much for the children throughout the school year," she said, "A monetary gift would not be appropriate but let your child help pick out a gift."

So as you hit the stores, don't forget those who helped you throughout the year and they won't forget you.

"Every time I hang a Christmas ornament on the tree that someone gave me, I think of them or a candle, every time I light it,  I think of that person," she said, "So think of a gift that will give throughout the year, not just through the holiday season."

By law, postal carriers, doctors and nurses are not allowed to accept monetary gifts.
