Air Show Food Booths Inspected Thoroughly All Weekend

DAYTON -- All the focus is on the stunts and amazing high flying acts at the Vectren Dayton Air Show, but there's also another big component to keeping the crowd happy: food! With the hot temps, and the high volume of people, a huge focus is placed on keeping all of us safe and healthy.

"We're so used to it now, we have everything down to a science. We've got waters, boilers, refrigeration, and we've got bags of ice. Bags of ice, many bags of ice," said a food vendor at the Dayton Air Show, but someone has to double check his work.

Chris Doggett is a registered Sanitarian with Dayton Montgomery County Public Health. He will be pounding a  lot of pavement and grass this weekend.

"This is where they keep a lot of the refrigerated product and you can see the temperature," said Doggett, pointing to the gauge. It was plenty cold.

"These people out here are professionals. They do this every weekend. They know what they're doing and we're going to educate them and work with them so nobody has to worry about the food they eat," said Doggett who in it for the long haul. They have several rounds of inspections scheduled all weekend.

"We'll be monitoring temperatures all weekend long... hand washing is very important, food handling, food storage and also also utensil washing, how they're watching and sanitizing utensils."

"Everything is safe and sound and made to order, so come on out and enjoy yourselves," said the food vendor.

The gates open up at 9 AM. The first act should be taking off just before noon.
