COLUMBUS (AP) -- A 90-year-old central Ohio woman who police say was beaten by her grandson has died.
Authorities said Annarea McCray, who weighed 82 pounds, died at a Columbus hospital on Wednesday night following the incident last week. Her daughter said she had a broken pelvis and arm, and died after developing pneumonia.
The daughter, Pam Haskins, told The Columbus Dispatch that her son, John Spindler, was in a rage and beating her June 13 when McCray tried to intervene and was knocked to the ground by the 41-year-old Spindler.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Spindler is charged with felonious assault and domestic violence. Other charges are being considered.
Authorities say Spindler was beaten by inmates at the county jail Tuesday after a TV news report about the beating of his grandmother.
