UPDATE: Shooting Victim Says He Was Asked For A Light Before Assault

DAYTON -- The man who was shot Thursday night told police he was just walking home from his girlfriend's house on West Fairview Avenue near Main Street when he was attacked.

He said he was approached by a black male who asked for a light. He said he turned around and was grabbed from behind by two other black males. He said the first man who asked for a light pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the arm and then the others went through his pockets looking for money.

A doctor told police the bullet had lodged against the victim's ribs but the injury was not life-threatening.

Police said there was no evidence of the incident along Fairview and two men on the sidewalk nearby said they didn't hear and gunshots or see anything.

DAYTON -- Police are trying to figure out how a man was shot late Thursday night.

Around 11 p.m. a man showed up at Good Samaritan Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.

Initial reports suggest the man was shot in the are of West Fairview and Rugby Road. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
